There is a pretty cool collection of beaches for all surfing levels, from beginners to pros alike. That being said, we have chosen three awesome surf spots that every person who enjoys surfing or wants to learn how to surf would most definitely love!

La 8

Just entering Old San Juan’s historic district, you’ll find a well-known spot called La 8. Steep waves crashing left and right make for a great spot for surfers of all levels, and though it can get a bit crowded as a result, locals are friendly and there’s always good camaraderie in the water. If you are staying in San Juan or Condado, in just a couple of minutes you’ll be paddling out to catch one of the most popular and fun waves in the Metro area. Want to get your feet wet? Book a surfing sesh or tour with our team.

Los Tubos

A bit farther than the previous spot, but well worth the 45-minute drive, you will find a beautiful beach with, of course, amazing waves for all levels. For beginners, the inside wave during smaller swells might be a better choice. For those experienced enough, a well-sized swell means barreling lefts and rights off the main peak. Los Tubos is not only known for its waves, but also for its beautiful shoreline. If you’re lucky enough, you might even spot some Taino petroglyphs uncovered by the waves along the shore. Aviones Beach

Lastly, but definitely not least is Aviones, our home break! Just 12 miles from San Juan you can find one of the best waves on the island crashing the reef at Piñones (Loíza). To top it off, along the beachside you’ll find some amazing local food joints, where you can grab an alcapurria or a bacalaíto. Best suited for advanced surfers, this is a great spot to surf near San Juan. Surfer Today has hailed Aviones as a world-class wave, and one of the most consistent beaches for incredible waves on the island. It gets madly crowded, though, so make sure you’re out at the lineup before the sun goes up. Stop in by and discover Surf’d (our surf shop and training center), Hook’d (our seaside eatery) and Heal’d (a lavish place to recharge and get back to wellness).
