Can’t pick just one break? No problem. Our Surf freaks have hand-picked the two best seasonal spots for you to ride. We’ll choose the specific breaks of what’s pumping within those zones and keep you updated prior to the tour. Here’s what’s included:
Its one of the first waves in Puerto Rico to achieve international fame, and still one of the favorite waves to surf on the island. When it pumps the reef creates a variety of sections and takeoff points, and under the right conditions long tubes straight down the line. This spot benefits from the regions protection from wind, and pumps when other areas may suffer to wind exposure. Depending of conditions it’s a surf spot that can accommodate most skill levels. However, as the best-known surf spot on the island to both locals and visitors, be prepared on most days to compete for waves.
La8 is sensitive to wind, and starts to be inconsistent at winds above 15kn, otherwise very predictable based on surf size, and wind direction. La8 is a reef break that pumps left’s and right’s across the entire beach, some days mostly long right hand peelers best surfed on boards 7’ and longer. On bigger days La8 produces fun hallow waves, with lots of action for boards of all sizes. Due to its wide angle and long lines, La8 creates wave opportunity for surfers of many levels, with a lot less competition for waves than other breaks on the island.
A locals “gem” this surf spot creates some of the most perfect and longest lefts on the island. It’s a wave machine fueled by a shallow reef, and starts to create wave perfection in swells above three feet. Its one of the few waves on the island with the potential to break equally great throughout the year. Locals say that when it’s pumping Inches is our Pipeline.
Another break known to work throughout the year, Los Tubos reef/rock bottom creates waves for all levels, depending on swell size and wind. Its exposed location tends to benefit or be affected by wind direction, and has a unique ability to benefit from both wind and ground swells. This surf spot favorite production is a long well shaped left, and ability to create long tubes (hence its nickname) under the right conditions.
Domes produces on most swells a consistent right-handed reef break with carvable walls. The wave at Domes can be hollow and long, its seasonal consistency and size has earned this surf spot a loyal fan base of both local and visiting surfers. Due to its location it’s sensitive to currents, and on larger days its been known to frequently create “sections” and shorter runs.
This is a fairly consistent reef break known to produce waves for various skill levels throughout the year. Jobos produces both lefts and rights, and catching waves can be competitive depending on conditions. When pumping, the wave “behind the rock” can compete with any world-class wave, and an advanced surfers dream come true.
Producing world-class right-hand tubes during its peak season, this surf spot is known for providing an opportunity for surfers of all levels, depending on surf conditions. Its backdrop is one of Puerto Rico’s most beautiful beaches, and because its hard to find has been able to remain relatively uncrowded. During peak season it produces a wave few would argue is close to perfect, but its takeoff from an outside reef creates a narrow point, which tends to create a crowd. Be ready to paddle like a pro during peak season and you might just find surf heaven.
Aviones is one of the most consistent, and best performing year-round right and left reef-breaks in PR. Very consistent in wind conditions that close out other breaks, it’s a high-performance wave, hollow and fast that “plays hard.” A wave that rarely disappoints, it has become a go-to break for local high-performance surfers. Aviones during peak seasons is better suited for short boards and strong intermediate/advanced surfers. According to Surfer Today “Aviones is a world-class wave, and one of the most consistent beaches for great waves on the island.”
